Shopping Centers

Central Market (Phsar Thmei)
This unique, art-deco building is a phnom penh landmark. Prior to 1935 the area was aswamp/lake that received the runoff during the rainy season. The lake was drained and the market constructed in 1935-37. Wet season flooding in the area around the market of the market is lined with souvenir merchants hawking everything from T-shirts and postcards to silver curios and kramas. Inside is a dazzling display of jewels and gold. Electronic goods, stationery, secondhand clothes and flowers are also in ample supply.(Phsar Thmei means 'New Market', but 'Cetral Market' has caught on in English.)
Russian Market (Phsar Toul Tom Poung)
This market is of far less architectural interest but has a larger and more varied selection of souvenirs, curios and silks than the Central Market, it has a good selection silver, gold and jewels, but also carry of curios, silks, carvings, etc. It also has a good selection of CDs, Videos, fabrics, and electronic goods. Most of what the visitor might want is in the same general area on the south side but the rest of the market is well worth exploring.
Old Market (Phsar Chas)
A local market that is not at all geared to the tourist. it carries such items as fruits and vegetable, second hand clothes, hardware, motorcycle part and religious items. The dinner rush hour makes for a confusing dirty, potentially photogenic scene.
ORussei Market (Phsar Orussei)
Situated in a large new building this market provides hundreds of stalls for the shopper looking for luxury food items, jewellery, toiletries and second – hand clothing. This market can be a bit of a maze to get around in so try not to get lost.
Olympic Market (Phsar Olympic)
A covered modern market, the Psar Olympic is situated near the Olympic Stadium, hence its name. Electronics, bicycle parts and clothing can be found here amongst other items. As with the other markets in Phnom Penh food stalls are also available here for a cheap tasty snack.
