Cambodian-made grape wine

Grape wine made in CambodiaWhile arriving in Battambang province, you should not forget to try the taste of the grape wine that is probably the only one kind of grape wine produced in Cambodia. In order to see the grape plantation, you drive towards Banan temple; you will approach the three-hectare vineyard on the left hand in Banan district.

A bottle of wine is expected to retail for around $20 in Cambodia market.

There are two varieties: red and rose. The red is superior to the rose. The both wines are created from a blend of black queen, black opal and Shiraz grape varieties. But neither is particularly suited to Western palettes.

Why do they grow grape in Battambang? It is because that soil in Battambang is quite a good place for growing grape. At least 300 bottles of wine has been on sale in Battambang market town every month, around 10,000 bottles have been annually produced.

The owner is hard to keep the wine below 25 degree Celsius because the lack of electricity in the area makes air-conditioned storage impossible. The wine will produce a foul odor if the temperature gets too high during the fermentation process. The process storing of the fermenting wine is kept in the bin of sand with water poured into the cool it.
